WIN Northland in collaboration with Kamo High School, Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga / the Ministry of Education, Beca and Canam Commercial are excited to invite you to join us for a site visit and presentation to see and hear about Kamo High School’s and Blomfield Special School’s new facilities to accommodate the forecast master plan roll growth from 864 to 1200 students plus 12 special needs students.

This will be one of a number of visits over the life cycle of the project, so that our invitees can be involved with experiencing the progression of construction and hear from different stakeholders involved in the project.

Presenter Details

Damien Strogen, Delivery Team Manager, Capital Works,  Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga/ Ministry of Education 

Damien loves his role leading a high performing delivery team through collaboration, listening, hearing, time investment and humour. Damien is a team leader of seven, overseeing a portfolio of capital works projects for the Ministry of Education; and has been heavily focused on the Kamo High School Redevelopment since 2020, guiding the project into construction.

Steve Keynes, Senior Project Manager, Canam Commercial 

Steve is currently a Senior Project Manager with Canam Construction.  He started his career with a BSc (Hons) in Construction Management in Manchester and now has over 25 years’ experience in the industry in a variety of project management and commercial roles, both in the UK and NZ.

Maree Hemingway, Assistant Site Manager, Canam Commercial 

Maree started in construction almost accidently but absolutely loves it. She is a trade qualified hairdresser but after having children she found she needed something that fitted in with her family. Maree has done security work, traffic/roading work, and work as head housekeeper at a local hotel. During 2020 and in the midst of Covid-19, Canam offered her a position to manage heavy logistics and traffic control movements onto a busy central site in Whangārei. Two years later, she is now an Assistant Site Manager on the Kamo High School development and she hasn’t looked back.

Graeson Kermode, Assistant Project Manager, Beca

Originally hailing from Dargaville, Graeson now works in the Project Strategy & Delivery team at Beca. After beginning her career in Finance in Australia, she pivoted to Construction when she returned to New Zealand. A rewarding career change with the goal to give back to her community in mind, Graeson enjoys the fulfillment working on Kamo High School has given her. She is keen encourage others into the industry no matter their background and skills.
