WIN Wellington is pleased to announce that the New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is partnering with iwi mana whenua (Taranaki Whānui and Ngāti Toa) and local Councils to deliver the Te Ara Tupua project, a site WIN members will be able to visit on Thursday 22 May from 12:00pm - 1:30pm. Sponsored by New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and Te Ara Tupua Alliance.

Te Ara Tupua will improve transport resilience and create a walking and cycling link between Wellington and Lower Hutt. Delivering a safe route connecting more people to transport options in both Wellington and the Hutt Valley. Construction of the Pito-One to Melling section began in 2019 and was completed in October 2023. The Ngā Ūranga ki Pito-One section will be constructed between 2022 and 2026.

For those catching the train to Petone, don’t forget to look out for work on the revetment, including sea walls, Xblocks, offshore habitats.

PPE requirements:

Hard hat with chin strap (NO RED hats), 

Wrist to ankle cover (no shorts / skirts)

Hi Viz top – Orange

Lace up work boots (preferred) – but sturdy closed toe flat shoes are acceptable.

How to get there?

Travel on the Hutt Valley Line to Petone and take a short walk to the site office
