In turbulent economic times, the 2025 Budget looks to lift Aotearoa's economic growth through a range of measures. Funding will be limited to high priority Government policy commitments. It includes a pledge to develop a sustainable pipeline of long-term infrastructure investments. Those investments will be aimed at supporting productivity and essential services. The Government is looking at innovative ways to increase investment in infrastructure, including value capture tools and partnering with the private sector.

Eilya Torshizian - Director, Principal Economics

Under his leadership, Principal Economics has been entrusted with major initiatives, including the Second and Fourth Emissions Reduction Budget Assessments, the National Freight Vulnerability Strategy Development, and national health resilience planning for climate adaptation. With expertise spanning transport, housing, climate change, inequality, and economic development, Principal Economics is a trusted advisor to government and industry on some of the country’s most significant challenges. Eilya holds a PhD in Urban Economics and occasionally lectures in economics at the University of Auckland.
