Auckland

Registration is only available for current members.

Event Details

We are pleased to invite you to join ANZ, Infrastructure New Zealand and The Post for a breakfast discussion on the long-term sustainability of New Zealand’s retirement system on Monday 29 June from 7:00am.

As our population ages and pressure grows on public finances, this session will explore the future of the NZ Super Fund, National Superannuation, the role of KiwiSaver, and the broader fiscal challenge of funding longer lives. The discussion will focus on alternative financial strategies, such as modifying KiwiSaver, changes to savings settings or tax policies, at a time when more traditional levers remain politically challenging.

You’ll hear from political, business, and economic leaders - including NZ First Leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters, ANZ NZ Chief Executive Antonia Watson, and ANZ Group Chief Economist Richard Yetsenga - who will share a view from Australia, where private savings play a bigger role in retirement income.

Discussions will be moderated by The Post’s National Affairs Editor Andrea Vance and Political and Economics Editor Luke Malpass.

The session will also include polling insights on New Zealand’s fiscal outlook, discussed under the Chatham House Rule.

Ultimately, the gathering aims to find viable pathways toward long-term retirement security for New Zealanders in a complex political landscape.

We hope you can join us, and look forward to seeing you there.
