WIN Auckland: The Pathway to Decarbonising Rail in Aotearoa

24 May 2022

In 2019, New Zealand passed the Zero Carbon amendment to the Climate Change Response Act. The amendment set a target requiring all greenhouse gases to reach net zero by 2050. This target creates a challenge for all sectors of New Zealand business, including transport infrastructure such as rail.

The Women’s Infrastructure Network in association with Aurecon and KiwiRail is delighted to host a panel discussion on the role of rail in meeting New Zealand’s net zero target. Our panel of speakers bring diverse perspectives from across the rail sector - policy, consultancy, corporate and project delivery.

Join us virtually on 24 May at 12.30pm for what will be a lively discussion.

Post-Budget Analysis

20 May 2022

Budget 2021 committed $57.3 billion for infrastructure over the four years to 2025. This year’s Budget includes a $6 billion one-off increase in operating expenses, earmarked for climate action and the Government’s health reform programme. With our infrastructure gap currently sitting at at least $210 billion, we invite you to join us at our post-Budget analysis breakfast event on 20 May as we discuss what the announced allocations mean for the infrastructure sector.

We will be joined by Joey Shannon, Director Government and Infrastructure Advisory at KPMG, Brad Olsen, Principal Economist and Director at Infometrics and Michael Brook, Executive Director at HRL Morrison & Co Ltd. They will dissect the Government’s commitments and give their take on Budget 2022. This session will be facilitated by Tom Hunt, Banking and Finance Partner at Russell McVeagh.

Register for the livestream here.

The Infrastructure Collective Auckland: Introduction to Business Cases

19 May 2022

As demand for infrastructure grows, there is an increasing need to better use limited public resources. To help support decision making, the Business Case process aims to provide the justification and rationale for undertaking a project or programme. The objective analysis and consistent format of a Business Case allows for easy comparability and transparency and helps enable smart, forward-thinking investment decisions that maximise public value.

Funding Climate-Responsive Infrastructure

06 May 2022

Climate action is one of the most pressing and long-term challenges facing New Zealand. The Government has accordingly indicated that investing to meet our climate change goals will feature strongly in Budget 2022.

Join us to hear from Hon Grant Robertson – Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, and Minister for Infrastructure – and Dr Alan Bollard – Chair of New Zealand Infrastructure Commission: Te Waihanga and former Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand – ahead of Budget 2022.

Both will provide insights into the Government’s thinking and speak to how the Government intends to spend proceeds from the Emissions Trading Scheme. They will also reflect on what the upcoming release of the Emissions Reduction Plan means in terms of funding for climate change initiatives, their wider observations for the infrastructure sector and what the wider, macroeconomic implications for the economy are.
